Local Centre, Kingswood Parks
Masterplan
Hull
Kingswood Parks Local Centre is a new neighbourhood and required community facilities such as a primary school, community centre, health centre together with shopping provision, cafes and bars. The Local Centre also provides commercial and office uses. As well as providing these facilities, the new Local Centre is an important social and economic component to the broader Kingswood Parks development which requires flexibility to accommodate future needs.
The design of the Local Centre was influenced by the informal spatial structure of many of the characteristics of a traditional East Riding Village. Spaces are created that function on many levels – for example meeting points, formal/informal gardens, transitional spaces, areas for community activity and focus to the heart of the Village Centre, providing vitality and viability. Key buildings strengthen the Village Centres inherent character and the proposed network of pedestrian and vehicular routes within the area reinforce the sense of urban block/plot configuration. The network is linked to the Village Green defining clear transactions to the Local Centre, a key space where streets and paths merge to create a distinctive place within the local area.
