As a result of the refurbishment and re-ordering of the listed Drill Hall the rear courtyards were designed to provide a new main entrance with an associated external space for outside performance. The competition winning entry provides a generous approach to the main public entrance through an enclosed courtyard space. Both the stepped and ramped approaches are given equal weighting within the urban landscape and are separated by an in-situ concrete plinth containing lighting and seating features. A glass and stainless steel canopy provides a distinct focus at the new entrance.
